In most error-related or emergency situations, time is not on our side. That’s why, when it matters most, dispatchers responding to time-sensitive calls need to be vigilant, precise, and – most importantly – quick! In the elevator industry, this is doubly true, as a lot of elevator calls are in regards to stressful or critical problems.

When an emergency call come through to an elevator dispatching team, a number of factors are involved in why time is of the essence:

Technician Response Time
Handling a problem isn’t as simple as getting a call and responding, because those taking the calls aren’t the ones going out in the field. Dispatchers rely on the technicians they send to respond to calls in order to get the job done. Unfortunately, dispatchers can’t control how long it takes technicians to arrive on-site, so working as efficiently as possible on their end is extra important. Everyone needs to do their part to get things done, starting with a phone call.

Passenger Safety
The goal of any elevator dispatch call is to, first and foremost, ensure the safety of all passengers inside the elevator car. Doing so requires operators to be extra perceptive and quick to assess the situation, so they can determine the best way to respond and instruct technicians to assist the passengers in the safest way possible.

Elevator Car Stability
In particularly dangerous scenarios, an elevator call is in regards to a potentially catastrophic elevator malfunction, but it’s not always so evident. Dispatchers need to be quick to diagnose and quick to respond so that such situations don’t go from bad to worse.

Caller Satisfaction
Although less imperative than safety, the satisfaction of your elevator car passengers matters to your business, so it should matter to your elevator dispatchers. Calls, in any situation, appreciate and expect to be taken care of and be made to feel like a priority, and that starts with dispatchers too.

Elevator dispatching is a big responsibility, no matter what the call is about, so don’t cut corners when it comes to hiring competent operators.
